In the autumn of 2025, I wrote an extended review of Anne Applebaum’s Autocracy Inc.: Dictators Who Want to Rule the World for the Scientific and Medical Network’s Paradigm Explorer. The more time passes, the more the Applebaum’s unheeded geo-political warnings become actualities.
Since the review was published last autumn, the world has changed a great deal. At the time, I entitled the review ‘American Democracy, Down But Not Out’, now it seems, the light is nearly out.
Like the mythological figure, Cassandra, Applebaum warns the world against its own blindness. Thankfully, she offers a clear vision for a more humane and democratic future, if we would only listen!
